The Ripple of Giving
Title: The Ripple of Giving
Neighbors, always seeking funds
Hands outstretched for help they crave
With noble heart, my husband’s choice
To give $400, their lives to pave
But questions linger deep within
Is it selfish to deny their pleas?
When debts burden their weary backs
Do we dare to forsake their needs?
Running water they lack, it’s true
A basic right we tend to take
To turn a faucet and let it flow
While they survive, thirst still awake
Yet, in the depths of our concern
Boundaries arise, pressing intent
Must we bear every burden cast?
To constantly give, this discontent
A balance struck, a delicate dance
Between compassion and self-care
For if we deplete our own reserve
No longer a lifeline can we share
Our neighbors, their struggles and strife
Confronted with a choice anew
To gently decline, we must find strength
While keeping empathy shining through
