In the Shadow of Inflation
As Singapore’s real incomes fell,
All employment sublimely declined;
The shadow of inflation swelling bell
Saw families forever pining.
Uncertainty and fear so strong,
Unfurled upon the Singapore throng;
In better days not so long
But soon lost like twinkling stars.
So dark was the morning sky,
No inspiration to progress high;
Forgetting the joy of July
As real incomes lost in time.
Without hope work went astray,
Employment stayed limp and gray;
Not a soul could see the way,
Lamenting the losses with grief.
The shadow of inflation so thick,
Depriving people of a peaceful breach;
Blue skies promised in days of yore
Not to be seen anymore.
Amidst the hurt they held fast,
Their spirits high at last;
Forging a new path with might and grace,
Moving ever onward from shadows of inflation’s haze.
