A Child’s Innocence Denied

A Child's Innocence Denied

Title: A Child’s Innocence Denied

In a dimly lit tavern, filled with cheer,
A little girl, with wonder in her eyes,
Her parents, beside her, excitedly near,
To welcome the New Year in champagne’s guise.
But as she asked for apple juice, so sincere,
The pub’s refusal left her spirits chastise.

Whispers of laughter and clinking of glasses,
Filled the air with an atmosphere so bright.
But a tiny voice, in innocence, passes,
Longing for a sip of sweet delight.
Yet the manager, with disapproving glances,
Rejected her wishes, diminishing her light.

The little girl, confused, could not comprehend,
Why her simple request was cast aside,
In a world where innocence should never bend,
Her desire for joy should never be denied,
For apple juice in a champagne flute to pretend,
A toast with her parents, side by side.

Oh, how her parents’ eyes glistened with love,
As they witnessed their daughter’s earnest plea.
But sadly, the pub, as if wearing a glove,
Discriminated against her child-like glee.
Their decision, devoid of compassion or shove,
Revealed a world where rigidity rules with glee.

Let this incident remind us, one and all,
That moments of joy should never be reserved.
Every soul, whether old or small,
Deserves a chance to be joyfully observed.
Inclusion and acceptance, let them stand tall,
So that no more innocence is undeserved.
