Concealed Racism
The Coast Guard leaders tried to deny,
A critical report of racism and hazing,
Sexual misconduct, for all to see
A major problem, not just a passing.
But denying the truth will not avail,
It’s in the air and we must take note,
It’s time to confront this ongoing ail,
Actions needed: a strategy we must promote.
We must reach beyond our own Coast Guard fellows,
Racism and its counterparts must be addressed,
To identify and correct all of the telltale fellows,
That allow such acts to be digressed.
We need a shift in thinking and a mindset change,
To rid our ranks of corrosive embarrassment,
A united front, together we must arrange,
An active stance is our Governor’s firm intent.
We need to reach each step of our organization,
To embed a culture of acceptance and equal respect,
For in this light, no derogation,
A newfound energy to watch and inspect.
We need unity, deportment and probity,
Leadership at its core for all to see,
A silent revolution, integrity,
This is how we turn the tide – emphatically.
