Revealing My Truth
Title: Revealing My Truth
In the spotlight’s glare, I stood with a heavy heart,
Concealing my true self, my authentic art,
A burden silently borne, a secret to protect,
Fearful my career, my dreams would then reject.
Through melodies and lyrics, I found solace and release,
But the weight of my silence never found peace.
For I longed to share my story, to truly be free,
To let the world see the real me, for all to see.
But the industry’s whispers echoed in my ear,
“Keep it hidden, Barry, don’t let them near,
Your sexuality, your truth, may cost it all,”
So I carried on performing, wearing a mask so tall.
Yet within my heart, the desire grew stronger,
To live an authentic life, to exist no longer
As a puppet to society’s expectations and fears,
But as a beacon of truth, shattering the veneer.
And so, in a moment of courage, I finally spoke,
Leaving behind the shackles that had long choked,
For my career, though precious, now paled in measure,
To the freedom and authenticity, I found in treasure.
