Shadows of Despair

Shadows of Despair

Title: Shadows of Despair

In a land where prejudice reigned supreme,
An Alabama mayor victim to the obscene.
Underneath the façade of progress and cheer,
Lies a darkness that haunts, invisible and near.

A leader lost to the depths of despair,
His pain a burden too heavy to bear.
Behind closed doors, his battle unsurpassed,
A reminder that intolerance still holds its steadfast.

Pre-Stonewall horrors, we thought long gone,
Resurface relentless, relentless and strong.
The echoes of discrimination, they persist,
As we witness humanity’s darkest twist.

But in this tragedy, let us take heed,
Unite in compassion, love’s fervent creed.
Stand firm against hate, discrimination’s cost,
And forge a future where acceptance is never lost.
