Shield of Ignorance
in the poem
Title: Shield of Ignorance
Ignorance is the shield,
A wall of sound we wield,
Where truth lies buried deep,
Under fear we steep.
Cries of rape ignored,
No acknowledgement offered,
Though pain and fear remain,
Yet justice is in vain.
Tucked ‘neath Florida’s shield,
To protect the ones revealed,
Defenses pile high and deep,
Abandoning victims to weep.
Allegations simply denied,
Protected by their pride,
Unjustly shielded from the truth,
Leaving tales of guilt unchecked.
The politics of power’s shift,
Where women’s words are swift,
Swallowed by unspoken shame,
Women hidden by Florida’s reign.
In this fight against truth,
Their lies are uncouth,
For the shield blocks their view,
And justice for women, denied anew.
