The Price of Prejudice

The Price of Prejudice

Title: The Price of Prejudice

In Kentucky’s realm, a clerk defied,
Her duty cast aside, love denied.
A gay couple, filled with hope and grace,
Seeking to wed, to embrace their embrace.

Unto the courts, their plea was heard,
Justice proclaimed in every word.
But Davis, steadfast in her belief,
Unyielding to love, causing endless grief.

For nine long months, the battle waged on,
The couple’s rights, together withdrawn.
In a courtroom fraught with tension’s threads,
The judgment fell, swift as the night sheds.

The clerk was ordered, the cost was known,
A compensation sought, seeds of disdain sown.
A heavy price to pay for love’s denial,
As society’s wounds deepen, twist, and coil.

Two hundred sixty thousand, the decree’s amount,
A sum that echoes the pain, the bruised account.
A reminder of the triumph love shall attain,
As hearts beat stronger with each stammered refrain.

May this serve as a lesson, etched deep within,
That love won’t surrender to ignorance and sin.
For the price is high when prejudice prevails,
But love will conquer, setting free the lovebirds’ trails.
