The Pros and Cons of Tipping
Title: The Pros and Cons of Tipping
For some, tipping provides an extra payment,
A sign of appreciation that’s meant to beits own reward.
To restaurant workers, it’s often fair,
Paying more than standard wages, a bonus they can cheer.
But what of tipping in the wider economy?
An etiquette for service, giving extra for free?
It may seem generous, but it’s not the gold standard,
As tips can complicate salaries and serving demands.
Though tipping is appreciated in many areas,
It’s not a necessity or expectations in all.
In certain settings a gratuity is expected,
And ignoring the custom can incur a penalty.
Should tipping be done away with, fair pay for all?
Eliminating a custom that shows appreciation?
It’s a matter of economics, but subtler too,
Gratitude that results when tipping is done through.
The pros and cons of tipping are hard to debate,
Culturally enforced or something more innate?
For some, a service gratuity is just a payment,
To others, a sign of appreciation.
