The Reign of Fossil Fuels

The Reign of Fossil Fuels

The Reign of Fossil Fuels

The UN Climate Conference Finally Names the Culprit,
Exposing the root of our planet’s ailment,
With roaring fires of progress and industry,
We have nurtured an imminent catastrophe.

The depths of Earth’s core housed ancient remains,
A gift from nature, a treasure some proclaimed,
But our insatiable greed made us blind,
To the consequences of fossil fuel’s bind.

We stripped away forests, polluted the air,
Drilled through the oceans, with no thought or care,
Intoxicated by wealth, drunk on oil’s power,
We forgot about nature, in our darkest hour.

Melting ice caps, rising sea levels, storms so fierce,
Yet our addiction to fossil fuels never did pierce,
The facade we built, to ignore the truth,
That our future depends on sustainability’s youth.

The conference’s revelation is a step in the right direction,
But we must act swiftly to prevent further destruction,
For time is slipping away, like sand through an hourglass,
And the consequences of our actions may forever last.
