The Unspoken Shadows
The Unspoken Shadows
In the tale of history we embark,
A question lingers, veiled in the dark.
Nikki Haley, with words she conveys,
Leaves out the truth that slavery sways.
It’s not the first time this omission is made,
A dance with denial, a truth to evade.
The echoes of injustice, they persist,
In the shadows of words, they silently twist.
The Civil War, a scar upon our land,
Fueled by chains and oppression’s harsh band.
Across the fields where blue and grey clashed,
Slavery’s burden upon shoulders were lashed.
How can we rewrite history’s tale,
When the heart of the matter we continue to fail?
To face the shadows, to let truth be told,
In justice’s name, our nation must unfold.
For silence breeds darkness where hatred can grow,
Memory distorted, injustice to sow.
In acknowledging wounds, we find the cure,
To mend the fractures and promise a future.
Let us embrace the truth, dispel the deceit,
And from the ashes of ignorance, rise to meet.
For in acknowledging the sins of the past,
We can build a world where equality lasts.
